Game Player's Strategy Guide to Game Boy Games is a bimonthly magazine launched by Signal Research, modeled after their highly successful Nintendo strategy magazine. Thanks to its decidedly niche content, it is the least well-known (and also shortest lived) of Signal Research video-game titles.

History

The magazine was spun off Signal's flagship Game Players publication in the summer of 1990, when the original black-and-white Game Boy was proving to be a sales powerhouse on the level of the NES. Structurally it was very similar to Signal's Nintendo and Sega strategy guides of the era, with many games getting one-page strategies and a select few receiving a multi-page treatment.

However, while lots of people bought Game Boys, relatively few customers were hardcore enough gamers to buy an entire magazine on the subject. The title was also hindered by Signal's traditionally bland visual design, further hampered by the black-and-white game screenshots. The magazine was folded in 1991 in the wave of cutbacks that ultimately led to Signal's bankruptcy in the fall of that year.

I think that only seven issues were published; if you know of more, please let me know.
