GameWEEK
From Magweasel
GameWEEK was a game-industry trade newspaper published by CyberActive Media Group from 1995 to 2002. Its name was changed to ieMagazine in 2001. Despite the title, the publication was actually biweekly from 1994 to January 1, 1999, when it went weekly until the ieMagazine rebranding.
A large-size publication similar to InfoWorld and other tech-industry trade journals, GameWEEK originally began in May 1995 as Videogame Advisor, a normal-sized magazine devoted to the game industry. The title expanded into newspaper size in January 1997, then changed names to GameWEEK in 1998. During this era, most of GameWEEK's print space was devoted to industry news, software launches, and features on trends in the industry. A two-page review section went over a group of upcoming games and rated them in terms of hype, marketing, placement, and competition, and all of the advertising was geared towards retailers and suppliers. The title was folded in January of 2002 following the dot-com shakeout.
In addition to GameWEEK, CyberActive also published a litany of websites, including GameJobs.com and GameDaily, which now functions as AOL's video-game news portal.
